North of Schwarz from Portage Brewing in Walker, Minnesota. Got it at Wine, Beer, and Spirits in Grand Island NE.
They call it an oak fermented dark lager, and that's just what it tastes like. Nicely malty and just roasty enough. The oak and vanilla are subdued, but that's OK because at 5.4% alcohol, it's not a big beer.
Zundert Trappist 8, from Trappistenbrouwerij de Kievit in Klein Zundert, The Netherlands. Got it at Wine, Beer, and Spirits in Grand Island NE.
This is a spiced strong ale from the Netherlands' only Trappist brewery. It's really nicely malty and toasty, with a mild spice character. And it sure doesn't taste like it's 8% alcohol. Good stuff.
Hefeweizen from Full Fledged Brewing in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Got it at Wine, Beer, and Spirits in Grand Island NE.
It's a real good wheat beer in the Baden-Württemberg style, which I just made up. The Hefeweizens in that part of Germany are much more bready than their Bavarian cousins, with a noticeable but subdued banana character and beer low clove notes. This beer is a damn fine example.
Old 63 American Pilsner from Bur Oak Brewing in Columbia, Missouri. Got it at Wine, Beer, and Spirits in Grand Island NE.
It's an excellent clean light beer with a real nice balance. 20/20 points.
Mosaic IPA, a fresh hop beer from Castle Danger Brewing in Two Harbors, Minnesota. Got it at Northbound Liquor in Elk River.
Not all that hoppy in aroma nor flavor, but it's clean and it's smooth, and I'd drink it again.
Let's get things started with the beers I've had today!

After an eight-year hiatus, The "Beer Me" Blog is back! Well, sorta anyway. I don't have much to share right now, but I just wanted to let you know that the Beer Me! Facebook page is going away, and the stuff I used to post there will start appearing here very soon. Prost!
